Education

Cincinnati’s education system is diverse and robust, spanning public primary and secondary schooling, many private and specialty schools, community and technical colleges, and research universities. The city is also home to a large public library system and several academic libraries that support both students and the broader community.

  • The Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) district is Ohio’s second-largest by enrollment, serving around 35,000 students from preschool through grade 12, across 66 schools.

  • CPS offers a variety of specialized and magnet programs (e.g. Montessori, language immersion, STEM) to cater to diverse student needs.

  • Private and parochial schools also play a major role in K–12 education, including schools for gifted students, religious schools, and institutions for students with special educational needs (e.g. The Springer School, St. Rita School for the Deaf).

  • At the postsecondary level, Cincinnati is home to several public and private colleges and universities, including a major public research university, community & technical colleges, and specialized schools (arts, theology, etc.).

  • The Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) is a large and active public library system, operating dozens of branches and serving as a community resource for learning, literacy, and access to information.

  • University and college libraries in Cincinnati are also strong, with significant research collections and facilities, especially at the University of Cincinnati, which maintains many subject-based and departmental libraries.
